39th American Birkebeiner Features Excellent Trail Conditions


HAYWARD, WI (KDAL) - The Cable-Hayward area of northwestern Wisconsin is brimming over with cross country skiers and spectators as the 39th Amercian Birkebeiner events got underway on Thursday.  About 9500 skiers of all ages and abilities are a part of the various ski and other outdoor events that wraps up with the main event on Saturday.  Birkie organizers expect about 20 thousand spectators over the three days of racing.  The Birkebeiner and Kortelopet begins at Telemark in Cable Saturday morning and finishes on Mainstreet in Hayward.  The street was covered with tons of snow that was trucked in and groomed on Wednesday night.  Trail conditions are said to be excellent and should allow for some fast times on Saturday.  More information on all the events can be found at www.birkie.com
