DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – To alert drivers that they are approaching the center line of the road, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will be installing sinusoidal rumble strips, known as mumble strips, along a portion of Highway 169.
Although traditional rumble strips are able to signal drivers with an audible and tactile warning, they have been proven as undesirable to adjacent land owners.
The so-called mumble strips produce lower noise levels when passed over by motorists.
The strips are being installed between Taconite to Pengilly as part of a road project.
Two fatal crashes occurred in that area in the past year as the vehicles crossed over the center line of the road.
