DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – The Duluth School Board voted Tuesday night to give Superintendent John Magas the power to create and regulate health and safety protocols without board approval.
The decision was based on ever-changing COVID-19 transmission rates and CDC guidelines.
The board believes Magas should have the ability to regulate those protocols as situations change, without having to wait for a formal board meeting.
Magas said his main goal is to ensure in-person learning for all students this year and to catch up on any curriculum that may have been missed last year.
Several parents also attended the meeting to voice their opinions on a mask requirement for the upcoming school year.
The school board plans to vote on a formal plan for the upcoming school year in a public meeting on August 24th.
