LAKE NEBAGAMON, WI (KDAL) – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department was called to Lake Nebagamon around 2:15 on Friday afternoon on reports of an adult swimmer who was observed going underwater and didn’t resurface.
Various agencies including the Lake Nebagamon Fire Department and Wisconsin DNR began a search and rescue mission.
The search was hindered by lightning and inclement weather.
The body of the victim was recovered at about 4:25 p-m about 40 to 50 feet off shore.
The victim has been identified as 74 year old George Goetz of Menomonee Falls. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, Goetz was camping in the region with a friend.
