(Reuters) -Canada saw more cases of measles reported in the first two months of 2025 than in all of 2024, the country’s Public Health Agency said on Thursday.
As of March 6, Canada recorded 227 measles cases this year, with many requiring hospitalization.
In the week ended February 15, 96 confirmed cases of measles were reported. The noticeable increase was associated with outbreaks of the disease in New Brunswick, Ontario, Québec and Manitoba, the agency said.
It added that a majority of the patients are unvaccinated or under-vaccinated children who have been exposed in their communities, such as in social events, daycares, schools and healthcare settings.
