DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now) – Duluth Police have announced that two citizen programs will be making a return after more than 5 years.
The City of Duluth has seen several drug crimes and shootings in recent months, with three shootings just this summer, including one in Canal Park.
Now, DPD is bringing back the Neighborhood Citizen Patrol and Police Reserve Programs, in hopes of directing resources to where they’re needed most.
The police department hosted an open house Tuesday night to get the word out about these programs.
Both are volunteer roles that assist the department, and residents say they hope to see an improvement in their neighborhoods because of it.
The citizen patrol program would bring a group of neighbors together to identify what the main issues are in their area, with the police serving as a liaison.
Meanwhile, members of the police reserve would work side by side with officers at community and special events to make sure everything runs smoothly.
DPD says in order to get the reserve program back up and running, they will need at least 10 to 15 volunteers to begin the training process.
If you are interested in joining either program, contact police@duluthmn.gov to sign up.
