DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A difficult shipping season continued for the Port of Duluth-Superior with over-the-year tonnage down by 30 percent through September when compared to last year.
According to the Chamber of Marine Commerce the St. Lawrence Seaway system was down 8 percent from 2019 due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The highlights for the Twin Ports is a 29 percent increase in wind energy cargoes and grain shipments are up by about 10 percent over last year at this time.
Duluth Seaway Port Authority Executive Director Deb DeLuca says September was the third consecutive month with tonnage totals above 2.8 million, below the usual monthly totals by a sign of improvement from the pandemic induced lows of late spring.
