ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – As of Tuesday at noon, some Minnesota residents that are 65 or older were able to sign up for appointments at nine community COVID-19 vaccination clinics.
Since it is a limited pilot program, the demand has outpaced the vaccine supply and only a limited number of appointments were scheduled.
During the first three hours of registrations, 232 thousand calls were processed and the website was processing about 10 thousand hits a second. At the end of the day, 5 thousand people had scheduled their first and second doses of the vaccine.
The initial nine clinics, which includes one in Mountain Iron, will preview a more extensive network of sites across Minnesota as the federal government increases the vaccine supply.
Those eligible can set up an appointment again next Tuesday at noon online at mn.gov/vaccine or by calling toll free at 1-833-431-2053.
Educators and child care workers are also eligible but they should work with their employers for vaccination appointments.
Besides Mountain Iron, other pilot clinics are located in Andover, Brooklyn Center, Fergus Falls, Thief River Falls, St. Cloud, North Mankato, Rochester and Marshall.
