DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Back in March of 2021, the Duluth branch of the NAACP said police in Duluth have been engaged in years of racial bias against blacks, indigenous and other people of color.
Understanding the seriousness of the claims, the Police Department contracted with an outside research team to better understand arrest data and improve services to the community.
The 172 page report from Police Strategies LLC has now been released.
The Demographic Disparity Analysis found no evidence to suggest systemic practices of biased policing or racial profiling within the Duluth Police Department.
Police Chief Mike Tusken says the department has dedicated and caring officers, hired for their character and guided by a best practice policy.
He says the study should be a starting point for continuing conversations with the community to address any issues and make Duluth safe for all citizens.
