CHICAGO (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Tuesday it will not restrict cattle imports from Mexico after a pest called new world screwworm was detected in another cow south of the border.
Updated inspection and treatment procedures for cattle are now in place, USDA said in a statement, after Washington suspended livestock imports from Mexico in late November due to the discovery of screwworm in a cow.
Another case of screwworm was found in a cow in Mexico’s Tabasco state last week, according to the World Organization for Animal Health.
