DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center, commonly known as The Depot in Duluth, is about to begin a two year renovation project.
To kick off the project, County leadership and Depot tenants are hosting a community celebration on 5 p-m Tuesday in the Depot’s Great Hall.
Artifacts that have been discovered in pre-construction work will be on display along with historical blueprints of the building that was built in 1892.
Planned work will include replacing the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
A time capsule will also be placed as part of the project and those attending the celebration Tuesday can write notes about their memories of the Depot. Some of those notes will be included in the time capsule.
The Depot brings in about 200,000 guests a year for special events and visits to the tenant organizations that include the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, the North Shore Scenic Railroad, the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis County Historical Society, the Minnesota Ballet, Lyric Opera of the North and the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council.
