SUPERIOR, WI (Northern News Now/KDAL) – Artist renderings of the reconstructed Blatnik Bridge were unveiled by the Minnesota and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation during a public meeting Wednesday evening in Superior.
The redesigned bridge will look similar to the original but will include several new features, including a shared pathway with rest alcoves for both pedestrians and bikers.
The new design also includes aesthetic lighting and an arch higher than the original. Officials said the additions are intended to support a new life expectancy of 100 years.
The 1.8 billion dollar project to replace the current bridge gets underway in early 2027 and is expected to last from 4 to 5 years. Traffic between Duluth and Superior will be using the Bong Bridge during the construction period.
