SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – An informational public meeting will be held Thursday to discuss walleye management in the St. Louis River and western region of Lake Superior.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is hosting the 6 p-m meeting at the Barker’s Island Inn.
Discussed will be the walleye population ahead of the St. Louis River walleye season opener on Saturday.
The St. Louis River fisheries are jointly managed by the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin and features the largest population of walleye in Lake Superior.
Under current regulations, walleye anglers in the river and estuary are subject to different regulations than those fishing on Lake Superior.
The DNR is hoping to merge regulations to find a common framework that is easy to understand and upholds the goals for the fishery.
