DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department received a distress signal from within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) on Friday.
The signal was coming from the southern edge of Lake Lac La Croix near the international border and was from a man who had a back injury.
Due to the remote location, the U-S Forest Service was contacted and used a seaplane to evacuate the 59 year old man and his 17 year old son who were vacationing in the BWCA from Kentucky.
The man was taken to a hospital by ambulance from the seaplane base in Ely and was released following treatment of his injury.
